Munich Net Zero
Munich net-zero in 2035
In December 2019, the Munich city council declared a Climate Emergency and set up a plan to become net-zero (Klimaneutral) by 2035. With this, the city wants to achieve climate neutrality 10 years before the German state, and be a pioneer in climate action in Europe.
Since 2010, the Integrated Climate Protection Action Program in Munich - IHKM - has already developed and implemented a large number of climate protection measures focusing on buildings and energy usage. But net-zero cannot be achieved through greenhouse gas reductions alone. Innovation is needed.
With emissions stagnating around 6 tons CO2 per capita for the last 15 years, achieving the IPPC 2-degree target of 1.5 tons per capita will be a challenge.
OUR Project
On German over-shoot day, the 5th of May 2020, we invited to the first dialogue of a project aimed at gathering experts and citizens of Munich to map out the challenges and opportunities we have to reach its target of Net-Zero by 2035 while rebuilding this lovely, green city of ours. 🌱
Results
The outcome of the first dialogues was collected in a report that you can download here.
WHAT’S NEXT?
We are working on taking the results of this event further and tackle the hurdles that were identified to reach the Climate Net-Zero target.
